Occidental Park makes the Project for Public Spaces' Hall of Shame.
There are a lot of reasons listed that make Occidental Park a real dud. The biggest shame is that it could be so much better! Take out the ugly shelter, about 20% of the trees for more lighting, and it should do a lot better. It is so dark during the day, and the shrill whine from Seattle's paleo-environmentalists regarding tree removal proves these people don't go downtown and certain don't go to the park. I have walked through the park at night only to here whispers about how "whitey us gonna get it," and that "I should know my place and stay out." Well Mr. Crackhead, it's my park, and I'll go in it when I damn well please.
